Glen Adkins is what you might call a late bloomer when you talk about his entrance into music.  Even though he grew up singing in his family church choir, he didn’t pick up an instrument until his was 17 years old. He met a young man in school whose father could pick the guitar and sing.  He went over there every day and listened and learned.  He could play the guitar before he had one of his own.

He cut his teeth on the old classic country tunes by artists like Hank Snow, Marty Robbins, and Jim Reeves.  He went on the play in a 50’s and 60’s band while he was still in high school. Later played in a country rock band, and did the bar scene for what seemed like forever. During that time he met some people that turned him on to Bluegrass music and he was instantly hooked.

Glen’s main instrument would be the guitar and some would say his voice, but Glen is too modest to agree.  His influences are great pickers like Tony Rice, Eric Johnson, and Ry Cooder.  He loves all kinds of music and enjoys playing across the board.  If it’s good song, then it fits.  He likes to surround himself with great musicians, and great people.  Glen is a devoted husband and a loving father of 4 fun little boys, one of which is already starting to sing and show an interest at the age of  9 years old.  He has no desire to play in a band, but loves nothing more than hanging out with the guys and seeing how many songs they can destroy.  He loves to laugh and doesn't mind being laughed at.  You won’t find a bashful bone in his body.

Glen met Mark “Brink” Brinkman one time at Glen’s home a few years before they started writing together, but it was nothing more than a jam session with some bluegrass friends.  Later he ran into Mark at the Bluegrass Musicians Supply in Columbus Ohio, after Mark had finished playing a song he wrote called Bluestone Mountain.  After finding out that Mark had written the song, Glen asked Mark what he thought of a song that he had been working on for a long time but couldn’t seem to finish.  The song seemed to spark an interest in Brink, enough to take the song and help Glen finish it.  The finished product was the song called Hobo’s Lament.  The rest is history.
